What is the Difference of Rod Mill and Ball Mill?

Rod mill and ball mill may be only one word difference in the name, but in fact, there was a striking internal differences. Rod mill , as the name suggests, is to rely on rod bars for the material grinding, and wet overflow is a generally used material way.Rod mill is generally used as a grinding equipment in the artificial stone sand, concentrator, chemical plants and power sectors. The ball mill has a great similarity in appearance with rod mill, which is most widely used in the cement and fertilizer production. Different from rod mill, ball mill is also used as dry type grinding mill, which is the main difference of the ball mill and rod mill because of its different grinding media.

Generally, rod mill commonly uses round steel bar grinding materials, which is short length of 3 ~ 5cm than cylinder.Small Conical lid curvature located at the top of the rod mill and the smooth inner can not only guarantee the bars freedom to fall in the cylinder body, but also can ensure the steel bars inside the rod mill become distorted when steel bars fight each other for regular exercise and fall. Furthermore,  rod mill requires larger port of discharge to ensure the mine mouth will not be blocked, usually mouth up to 1.2m. Although the principle of the ball mill is generally similar to rod mill, but due to the ball grinding media, the impact strength of the inner of ball mill is larger and stronger than rod mill and therefore ball mill liner requires a high strength. Relative to the rod mill, ball mill is wet-type and port of discharge is generally smaller and less likely to jam.
